How it works

SonouroflowTM is a noninvasive, home-based method that allows for simple phone recording of sounds generated during urination. The system digitally captures the intensity of the sound of a urine stream striking the water in a toilet, automatically transforming it into a graphic representation (sonourogram).

The output, representing the audio signal amplitude vs. time corresponding to the strength and duration of the urinary flow, is analyzed to generate a set of numerical values corresponding to maximum flow, time to maximum flow, average flow, and voiding time. Information about clinical symptoms is conveyed electronically at the end of each phone call by activating the Interactive Voice Response System. Graphic and metric analyses of multiple tests are stored, creating a voiding record for each patient. The test results are available for immediate viewing on a password-protected web site.
